Problem:

User complains about not being able to connect to the internet

Solution:

Check the Broadband service provider is not offline

BT Broadbands Fault check is

If the is not the case,

1) Goto the start menu and select 'Run'
2) Type CMD and hit return. If this doesnt work, try 'Run' then 'Command'
3) When the black screen comes up, type IPCONFIG and hit return
4) A set of numbers should come up showing for example

Ethernet adaptor Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix .:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . .: 192.168.0.32
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . .: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . .: 192.168.0.1

The Gateway is the address the system uses to connect to the internet using a router.

Your should try typing ping then this address. So in this case,

ping 192.168.0.1

Hopyfully you would get some form of reply.

If you get a reply back. hopefully you will be on the internet
